Gaming is getting bigger every year, and without a doubt 2011 onward are going to bring some great games forward. I am looking forward to a lot of games, but these are the ones that have me waiting for every video and interview I can get in my hands.
10 : Dragon Age II (03/08/11)
PS3, X360, PC
Dragon Age: Origins was good game, and a surprise hit. So needless to say it gets a part 2. Which the first Dragon Age seemed like a Re-skinning for the KOTOR games, but it told a great story so I was happy with it, but now they devs have shifted focus to make the gameplay on the consoles better, which is good. I normally started fights in the first one and walked off.
Though the fans seem to be split as for if the gameplay changes are good or bad, Since I am doing the article, it is good. Though you cannot play as different races any more you can still change the main character’s gender, and looks. Like what is done in Mass Effect. They overall added allot more speed into the gameplay, though the one negative I have is, from the gameplay I have seen it looks like they are adding allot more gore.
Showing a large step forward, and with Bioware writing team behind it, I am eager to play this game.
9: The Elder Scroll’s V: Skyrim (11/11/11)
PS3, X360, PC
With Skyrim shown off during the Spike VGA show earlier this month. And nothing is really known aside from the fact that the game takes place in the nation of Skyrim, which should be very much covered in snow. I do not know a lot about The Elders Scrolls games, or world. But I do now that Bethesda is a great developer and I trust them.
Game Informer will be doing a full unveil in their next issue, so keep an eye out for the all the details. And also, a closing note, Skyrim uses a new engine that Bethesda seems to be quite proud of. And this one would be higher on the list if we had more information.
8: Dynasty Warriors 7 (March 2011)
A game franchise that I have played for a long time now. I remember playing the demo to the first one in ’97, which was a fighting game. And remember playing the second one in the year on 2000. And I was hooked right then. The games have remained the same for the most part, with 5 and 6 staggering a bit. But 6: Empires managed to redeem the franchise a little. DW7 marks the return of the older style of game, with 60 characters and a new sub weapon system. the game has full 3D support and Move control for the PS3.
It’s not the most innovative, not the greatest looking, or the best playing game around. But it has always been what games stand for: Fun.
With DW7 due out in around March, I am eager to jump back into the game with the games, and take back China… Again!
7: InFamous 2 (TBA 2011)
InFamous was one of the best games I have played this generation. Yeah, it was a little glitchy but they’re all minor glitches, nothing games breaking. The gameplay was fun and open, the story was very well written and without spoiling anything. The ending was one of the greatest plot twist ever.
So with the second one due out 2011 I am really awaiting this one, with improved graphics and gameplay with a slight focus on streamlining the melee. It is shaping up nice right now. the return of Cole cannot get here fast enough!
6: The Last Guardian (Holiday 2011) Team Ico Collection (Q2 2011)
Team Ico known for their innovative gameplay and silent movie style stories, focusing on emotions, now armed with a… Cat, Chicken bird… Dog thing. The game looks just as great as their past works. Hard to explain the developers works in the past without playing them, Which brings be to the second game in this slot
Team Ico Collection, containing the teams previous works, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. Two of the best games on the PS2 now get an HD remix with 3D support. Dues out Q2 2011 giving you enough time to play these classics before getting the newest game.
I know a lot of you are thinking this should be higher on the list, but in truth everything from this point on are basically tied for second.
5: Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (11/1/11)
Shown off at the Spike Video Game Awards this game shoots high on my list. With great writing and characters with solid gameplay and over the top action, I have loved Uncharted since the day the Playstation Store crashed upon launching the first demo for it. Naughty Dog have done great work on the PS3.
With the gameplay Jimmy Fallon showed off looking great and a year left to go, this game shows allot of promise. And if it is anything like the first 2, it will deliver on all of that promise.
4: Devil’s Third (TBA)
Well… Not allot to say about this, as not allot is known. Except that the trailer is quite good, and Itagaki fabled director of Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden is behind the game. With his new team, Valhalla Knights, under THQ. The trailer shows the over the top action and gore that we have grown to know Itagaki for, and also his flair for good gameplay. Things are looking quite promising for this new I.P.
The gameplay is something like a third person shooter with Ninja. It’s has melee combat as well as acrobatic shooting… The logo kinda says it all. Not allot is known about this game, and I am not expecting Online play, but it might be possible.
3: Project Dark (TBA 2011)
Very Very little is known right now about this game, but what we do know is that it is based on Demon’s Soul’s in all but name, which means that I am really psyched about this game. I play Demon’s Soul’s allot, and it stands as one of my favorite games in this generation of consoles. So with this game due out I hope it can live up to it’s uncle. And that’s all there is known about this game.
2: Metal Gear Solid: Rising (TBA 2012?)
PS3, X360, PC
This one is getting mixed opinions right now. Raiden was not a popular character in MGS2, though I have always liked him, when I beat MGS2 I liked him. He has always been a neat character. And now he gets his own game. Which allows you to freely cut enemies and objects to shreds. Such as from what we have seen, oncoming trucks. Watermelons and, of course, people.
However unlike normal Metal Gear games, Kojima will not be heading this project, and in such the new director does not wish to do such long cut scenes. So this will not be a normal MGS game. But I hope have high hopes for this game, they are just making an action game. And I really like action games, and this one has great ideas behind it. I hope they can pull it off.
1: Final Fantasy Versus XIII (TBA)
1/18/11 A date that means allot to me right now, as that is when Square Enix will be hosting an event to show their games off. And I hope this is on the list for that. Also, I hope whatever trailer they show won’t be behind closed doors AGAIN! This game has had a long dev time, with the first screens dating back to May 8, 2006, we still do not know much about this game. We know the lead character Noctis has gone through a shift or two through the years, and the lead female characters name is Stella. Some basic gameplay has been shown but that is about all, nothing concrete.
None the less this game leads my list due to a darker vision of Final Fantasy and good character designs. Also, Nomura is behind this one directly.
Way of the Samurai 4
Mass Effect 2 & 3
Ninja Gaiden 3
What games are you looking forward to?
